Post #5 "Athens, Greece"

Rewind back to a couple hundred BC, back to ancient Greek philosophers and the belief in Greek gods, the Parthenon and the Acropolis of Athens. When I think of Greece, I picture houses stacked on top of each other, overlooking the crystal, clear water and mountains. I can imagine the warm breeze coming off the water and the smell of fish being cooked in the distance. Greece has always been a place that I would want to travel, ever since I was little and watched the movie Sister Hood of the Traveling Pants, the scenery is what I would love the most.   

When people think of Greece they think of the history and what happened years ago, they think of Athens and the many historical sights. While visiting Greece I would defiantly have to sight see and take a tour of as many of those sights as possible. I would love to go see the Parthenon, although it doesn’t look like much, just a bunch of rocks, it has seen so many historical moments. It was built as a sacred place dedicated to the cities goddess, later it became a Christian church, and soon after became a mosque. I am a visual person and learn from seeing what is being talked about, having someone explain to me what happened there and where the invasions and other events took place, would have much more of an impact in my life than reading it from a history book in class.

Furthermore, choosing a hotel to stay at in this fine city would be difficult, what it would come down to for me would be the view. The Central Hotel in Athens overlooks the Parthenon and is in downtown Athens, allowing you to see the night life while dinning on the patio, eating freshly caught fish. Although this hotel does not look like a tropical destination resort, when adventuring to a city revolving around ancient ruins and scenery the hotel is the least of your worries. On the other hand, ancient ruins are not the only place I would want to see, the National Garden of Athens would be like our Central Park. This garden is a little get away from the city life and allows you to relax for a bit, free of charge.

While researching I found it impossible to be able to summarize everything that there is to do when you travel to Greece. I would look forward to the leisure activities and seeing the sights that are so profound in our world’s history. Although they have beaches and a little bit of a tropical vibe, I would not concentrate on that aspect but on the history of the cities. I would enjoy the many museums and temples, boat on the Aegean sea and jump of a cliff or two in to the water, and walk through the parks and roam around downtown Athens.
