Close your eyes and imagine the calming sound of waves crash
upon the sandy shore line; imagine the feeling of the soft, warm sand in
between your toes, and the humid, hot air brushing across your face. This is
what I picture when I think of a perfect paradise, relaxing outside all day
under a straw umbrella and sitting in a beach chair enjoying the perfect
weather. Living in Michigan is so great and I wouldn’t change it for the world,
but this picture is not located in the unpredictable, mild summer that Michigan
has to offer. It would be in the tropical paradise of Cancun, Mexico; just the
sound of that makes me want jump in the pool and lay out in the sun.
Cancun was once a deserted island that many people had forgotten
about. It mostly consisted of marshes, jungles, and had a couple of large sand
dunes separated from in land Mexico by wide canals. The grand city that is located in the Yucatán peninsula
now, was once a forgotten place few knew about. When people began to figure out
this unknown location could be a tourist destination they started the Cancun
Project, they had three areas that they needed to build in order for it to be
prosperous. The first area that would depend on how the new found city would flourish
is the tourist zone, this is where the grand resorts would be built, accommodating
the laughter of children in the air and parents with a cool beverage in hand,
and the shops and multitude of restaurants would be located. Since tourists
aren’t the only ones this city needed, they figured they would build a
residential zone for permanent housing. The last area they built, thinking of
the tourist of course, was the international air strip, it was created to get
them from “A” to “B” making it possible for them to travel with ease and land
directly in the tropical city they were staying.
Although the weather really makes a trip to Mexico all worth
it, that’s not the only reason why it’s on the top of my travel destinations. Picturing the beach is so relaxing to me, but another reason why I want
to travel to Mexico is to learn more about the culture and walk around the
small villages and explore all the little downtown shops. Although I don’t care
for history all that much, it would be a great experience to see some of the
Mayan ruins. One of the ruins I would like to visit is called Las Ruinas Del Rey,
it is located in the hotel district and was discovered in the 1800s. I would
take a little tour and have someone explained further into detail about this
historic attraction because reading a little here and there from the internet
does not do it justice. Food would be next on the agenda, in every culture food
is a very important aspect. I would make
it a point to jump around from restaurant to restaurant and get a different
meal each time, whether it be a simple taco or one of the most extravagant dinners
I could find. I would be sitting down eating my taco, swaying back and forth to
the rhythm of the Latin music in the background. That brings me to the last
thing, I would thoroughly enjoy the music, having it play twenty-four seven would
be just fine with me. Everyone enjoys music, but Latin music has a certain rhythm
that just brings a smile to my face every time I hear it.
Makenzie, I loved Cancun! It is a great place to go! the music they play is great and catchy always made me want to dance.
