In the future I want to travel and see destinations that everyone talks about and glorifies. I want to be able to witness with my own eyes the Eiffel, Big Ben, Hollywood and many other well-known monuments and cities. The past nine blog post that I have written have been about places that I desire to go that have been out of country and out of state, but this one is going to be about a place that I want to travel to in my home state, Michigan. Mackinac Island is a well know tourist destination and many people native to Michigan enjoy taking vacations there on a yearly basis.
I have been to Mackinac Island one time, but it was a long time ago, I was probably five or six. I want to go again to experience the beauty of the small island now that I am older and will remember it. Traveling there with family would be fun, but I think I would rather take a couple of friends with me and experience it on our own. A ferry takes the people across the strait from Mackinaw City to the island. While staying on the island we would obviously have to stay in the Grand Hotel, in one of the very unique rooms. Due to the fact that, there are no cars allowed on the island, we would ride bikes or walk to each of the places that we would want to go while enjoying the sunshine and nature of the island. Summer time would be the best time of the year to go because you have to walk everywhere and also, the only time that you can get across with a ferry.
Going to the forts and the light houses is a must and it would be so great to see the historical monuments and learn more about Michigan history. We would also make a quick stop to Devil’s Kitchen, it is a small cave that was carved by the waves from Lake Michigan many years ago. Aside from learning about the history, we would also walk throughout the many trails in the Mackinac Island State Park and do a little shopping and walking around the town. Lastly would it be a trip to Mackinac Island without taking a dip in the lake or getting the well know Mackinac Island fudge from the multiple fudge shops located around the island? Not at all! So every day would be a new fudge shop and beach.
This would be a trip that I could take every year, but haven’t. My dream is to travel, but it doesn’t necessarily have to be out of the country, Michigan has a number of places that are gorgeous and offer awesome entertainment. At times I hate Michigan, mostly the weather, but when I stop and think about it, I really enjoy this state and the beauty and unique aspects that it has to offer!
